Who we need

Reporting to the Director, Employee Experience and HR Operations, we are looking for a strong Human Resources (HR) Generalist looking to continuously improve our employee experience. You will deliver services in employee relations, recruitment, performance management, policy interpretation and HR administration. You will own and manage the employee-manager experience and lifecycle in a dynamic and distributed workforce. You will work on several projects, collaborating with cross-functional teams across the organization and another educational institution working in a hybrid environment.

This is a contract opportunity up to 12-months in duration.

What you will do:

You will act as a subject matter expert supporting employees and management from recruitment and onboarding to performance management and exit strategies.

  • HR administration. You will:
    • Guide benefit allowances, policies, labour law changes impacting local HR processes and compliance.
    • Manage complex HRIS and benefits administration.
    • Create letters for employee changes, offers, terminations, employment verifications, etc.
    • Partner with IT and Payroll to ensure that people-transactions are processed timely and continuously reviewed, improved and streamlined.
    • Work with the Joint Health and Safety Committee and the COVID task force.
  • Employee experience. You will:
    • Personalize, deliver and improve onboarding programs,
    • Provide access to DEI and Wellness education and initiatives.
    • Drive programs to improve employee engagement.
    • Be the contact and coordinator for people, tools, processes, programs or projects.
  • Employee relations. You will:
    • Collaborate with Sr HRBPs on employee relations management, including issues and performance improvement.
    • Advise managers and employees on people practices that require in-depth knowledge of policies, procedures and local legislation.
    • Conduct investigations, coordinating with the relevant HR Business Partner.
    • Support the exit process to create a seamless transition.
    • Review local policies and processes to ensure that they are fit for purpose.
  • Talent management. You will:
    • Train and guide managers during annual talent and compensation processes and consult on employee compensation concerns.
    • Assist with hiring Faculty and on-site temporary resourcing.
    • Participate in job fairs or events to help elevate the employer brand and contribute to local community pathway partnerships to employment.
  • People development. You will:
    • Enable the success of new and experienced managers by leveraging, delivering and improving existing training content to further develop functional and managerial skills.
    • Support people managers and employees with career conversations, development planning and other development initiatives.

What you bring:

  • The academic background. You have a Bachelor's degree or higher in Human Resources or a related field. You have 2-3 years of HR Generalist or Junior HRBP experience in a matrixed organization such as headquarters for a retail chain. You have an understanding of HR-related principles and best working federal and provincial practices and procedures. You can drive recommendations and influence decisions, leveraging your insights to positively support success at the employee, manager and broader business context.
  • The passion. You are deeply committed to delivering an outstanding employee experience, optimizing retention and engagement and streamlining processes and procedures that empower management.
  • The knowledge. You have experience managing employee relations issues. You have worked with management and leadership to align the organizational, team and individualized goals, requirements and expectations. You have strong business and HR acumen, including problem-solving skills, critical thinking and analysis. You have advanced Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel and PowerPoint and experience with HRIS systems administration.
  • The interpersonal skills. You can foster trust with your managers and front-end employees, taking a consultative approach to understand their needs and present solutions. You have professional and effective communication skills to work across the organization at any level. You demonstrate diplomacy and can maintain a high level of confidentiality.
